The story is autobiographical and is similar to GeGeGe no Nyobo by Nunoe Mura (Mizuki's wife), about their struggles with poverty and difficulties in publishing GeGeGe no Kitaro. Gegege no Kakeibo addresses these struggles from Mizuki's point of view. (Source: MangaForever)
